la banda della scalinata.. die spanische treppe band..
the spanish steps band
from 1986 to 1994 approximately we inhabited the spanish steps in rome.
the morini bros started the trend in
1986. the mitico summer of 1987 we were rocking the steps so loud you
could recognize the songs the crowd was singing from behind the fast food
restaurant. it was crazy.. 10 guys standing at the foot of the steps
and a few hundred people sitting on the steps.. and no electric amplification.
in the years after police came regulating us, which was sort
of okay up to 1990, then they started effectively killing the artistic
scene on the spanish steps by confiscating our musical instruments.
we never played for money - it was just passion - and we were damn good.
one night brian may from queen showed up and was astonished to hear us
spontaneously do billy joel's the longest time a capella with all
background vocals. just like that.
but the police insisted on chasing us away. some of us moved to fontana
di trevi, the rest has spread in all kind of different directions.
even living in rome it's easy to stay away from the piazza for ages.
nowadays we have the internet to find
ourselves together again. so this is my little hint to the search
engines which may drive some of you old friends to this little website.
if you are or know any of the people listed below, just enter the
chat and leave a message with your email address. i hate to make mine
